When I walked up to the house today there was a strange little yellow book in a plastic bag.

The closer I got I realized I had seen something similar many years ago. It was called the yellow pages.

At first I didn’t know what to do with it. I brought in into the house more out of curiosity than utilization.

Then I thought, when was the last time I had actually used the yellow pages. No, I really had to thing about it.

I thought back in the last year, had I used the yellow pages, No. Had I used the yellow pages in the last two to three years, No.

Then it hit me I could not remember the last time I picked up the yellow pages to look for a product or service to purchase.

How about you? When was the last time you used the yellow pages for a purchase?

Let me ask you a question?

When was the last time a patient came into your office and you asked them how they heard about you (as you should do with all patients for marketing purposes) and they said the yellow pages.

No it doesn’t matter what kine of a deal the sales Rep. is willing to give me, if my business does not come from that media source you have no business spending time or money on that source.

The last three chiropractic office studies I performed, not one patient had come from the yellow pages.

After word of mouth it was the Internet.

If you want to get in touch stay in touch with your market, one word….Internet.

At times it can seem daunting on what to do or where to start. Like any other task or goal in your like How do you eat an elephant? one bite at a time. Meaning you just have to start. Pick one source and start. Just pick one, but start.

You’ll pick up the intricacies of how the Internet works by using it.

Don’t get distracted by all the venues, just pick one, but start.

Neurosurgeons are one of the best referral sources for chiropractors.


The neurosurgeons I worked with were very conservative. They had plenty of business and were not scalpel happy. Of all the doctors I worked with they were more aware of the healing process and the bio-mechanical/pathological process initiated with surgery. They were totally for a more conservative method or care initially.


Neurosurgeons are highly trusted by their patients. When I received a referral from the neurosurgeons I worked with the patient was much more receptive and compliant.

It has also been my experience that the neurosurgeon is interested in the facts and science of health care. Meaning the 3 phases of healing and how chiropractic treatment effects the tissue. They were not interested in chiropractic philosophy and some made it a point to be aware of my position on treatments which have not shown consistent clinical effectiveness and reliability.


In my experience, Not many chiropractors try to establish a referral relationship with neurosurgeons. My personal belief is they are somewhat intimidated. There is no need, I have yet to talk to any medical provider that understands the bio-mechanics of the spine and the effects of the 3 phases of healing.

In my experience once I engage the neurosurgeon on the spinal instantaneous axis of rotation and abnormal lovitt positions they were very interested.
